The Expedition App is a collaborative project controlled by Twitch and maintained by Koko Digital.

During active expeditions and campaign periods, responses are prioritised. For questions related to on‑location logistics, safety, or campaign participation, please contact your assigned producer.

Privacy Policy

Overview

The Expedition App is operated and controlled by Twitch, with technical maintenance and support provided by Koko Digital. The app is powered by ICAST, a campaign studio designed to run live campaigns across the Twitch and Amazon Live systems.

Personal Information

We respect your privacy. For the purposes of this app, we do not collect or store personal identifying information such as your name, email address or contact details.

Camera Access

The app requests access to your device camera solely so that you can scan QR codes to complete challenges during your expedition. No photo or video content is captured, stored, or transmitted by the app.

Location Access

The app requests access to your location in order to:

  • Track your progress while you walk your expedition route;
  • Monitor progress and aid safety should any problems arise.

Location data is used in real time for expedition functionality and is not retained once the event concludes, except for limited, event‑operational logs where strictly necessary.

Campaign Participation

The Expedition App can only be used while a live expedition is in progress. Participants are pre‑selected by Twitch and enrolled to be part of an IRL campaign that runs at specific times. Prior to each expedition, participants receive a full briefing covering app usage, health & safety, and contact details for their producer.

Data Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect information processed by the app, including encryption in transit where applicable, access controls, and routine security reviews designed to prevent unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Third‑Party Services

The app may interact with third‑party services (including Twitch and Amazon Live systems) as part of campaign operations. Any data shared is limited to what’s necessary to enable expedition features and is handled in accordance with the applicable policies of those services.

Legal Bases & Your Rights

Processing performed by or on behalf of Twitch for live expedition operations is based on legitimate interests and participant agreements associated with the IRL campaign. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of information related to you, or to object to/limit certain processing.

International Transfers

Where services are provided across regions, information may be processed in data centres outside your country. In such cases, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms) are used, where applicable.

Data Retention

We retain only the minimum operational data necessary to support a live expedition and to meet legal or safety obligations. Unless otherwise required, expedition‑specific operational data is deleted or anonymised after the campaign concludes.

Children

The Expedition App is intended for pre‑selected adult participants in supervised IRL campaigns and is not directed at children. If you believe a child has used the app outside the intended programme, please contact us immediately.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, operational practices, or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated to participants ahead of a new expedition.
