Microsites are essentially small websites that are usually designed to promote a specific product or service and often form part of a marketing campaign. A microsite allows you to emphasise this product or service without it forming part of your main website allowing it to stand on its own two feet.
A microsite is typically no larger than 5-10 pages (the clue is in the name) with its content and design focused around what you are trying to promote. A good example is if you were launching a new product on the high street. You may want to visually display the product in all its glory. You will perhaps want to shout out about the product specification, the price, and where the end user can purchase the product. You may also decide to run a competition allowing people to win that particular product. The design will be focused around the product whilst still ensuring the brand behind the product is still prominent.
